Artwork at Stalheim

Not without reason, numerous painters and poets have been inspired by precisely this dramatic but at the same time harmonious landscape and it is our hope that you too will find the inspiration you need to shape your own work of art here at Stalheim.

The hospitality traditions are long and good here at Stalheim, with the humble beginnings in 1647 when the postal route between Oslo and Bergen was opened and Stalheim became one of the many post yards along the route. In 1750, "gastgjevarstovo" - which is now in the museum at Stalheim - was put into use. The first hotel with approx. 20 beds was opened in 1885, but already after 10 years of operation the hotel had gained a reputation as one of our leading country hotels and had approx. 160 beds.

Although much has changed, today's hosts at Stalheim, since 1927 the Tønneberg family, in many ways have the same tasks as the "host" in the 1750s: welcoming the traveler in a warm and hospitable atmosphere, ensuring that the guests are offered good food and good drink and that they get a good bed to sleep in.
