Näli - the hussar's place

This is the classic hike in Stalheim. The hike to Nåli is already mentioned in Professor Yngvar Nielsen's Travel Guide from 1890. Along the way, you have a magnificent view of Stalheimsfossen and the Stalheimskleiva .

Bergen 365 on a trip to Nåli

Board at the start of the tour - click for larger image

This tour partly follows a car/tractor road and partly on a good path. The tour takes about 2 hours round trip and is considered an easy tour that is suitable for hikers of all ages. The climb is about 250 meters in altitude. In wet weather, good footwear is recommended. The tour is well marked and there are good information boards about the tour and the area both at Stalheim and in Nåli.

From Stalheim the hike goes up to Brekke and at the gate you turn right and go down the road and over the bridge to Sivle. From Sivle you then follow the path up towards Sivleshagen, under the red cabin and into the forest. The path from Sivleshagen to Nåli has been put in good condition in recent years and is easy to find.

The Nåli Farmstead - circa 1910

Nåli is located halfway between Stalheim and Jordalen, and was inhabited and in operation until 1925/1930. Today, the remains of the houses at Nåli cannot be seen. Instead, the area has been converted into a small picnic area, with several benches and tables.
